I use oil or acrylic paints, for the most part. More recently, I have been experimenting with Natural Earth paints for less less toxic possibilities.
Originally trained as a philosopher in Eugene, Oregon, I returned to painting after completing my dissertation. It felt like the opposite of typing in a white library carrel.
I work in layers, trying not to aim, excavating what shows up. Sometimes I intentionally disrupt the painting with lines or colors I believe won't work. This dissonance then moves the painting forward as I attempt to fix what bothers my eye. I think of nature, an activity without intention, adapting against the pressures of what shows up.
